Hrvatska je, osim po stopama rasta turistickog prometa koje se brizno prate i redovito usporeduju sa drugim zemljama, u turizmu u zadnje vrijeme po jos jednom trendu postala dio globalne ekonomije, iako sa zakasnjenjem od tri do cetiri desetljeca. Radi se o procesu konsolidacije putem preuzimanja i spajanja koji se u hrvatskom hotelsko-ugostiteljskom sektoru intenzivirao posljednjih godina putem nekoliko vecih transakcija, a nakon vise desetljeca potpunog tr:zisnog mirovanja na ovom planu. To se desava u uvjetima kada ostale gospodarske djelatnosti u Hrvatskoj u najboljem slucaju stagniraju ako ne i nazaduju, a poslovni rezultati u turizmu rastu te turisticke kompanije na tr:zistu kapitala ostvaruju znacajni uzlet vrijednosti postajuci tako visoko atraktivne za investitore. Cinjenica je da je hotelsko-ugostiteljski sektor danas u Hrvatskoj visoko konsolidiran: tri vlasnicke grupacije upravljaju s gotovo polovicom ukupnih kapaciteta hotela, turistickih naselja i kampova.
Na globalnom planu desavaju se istovjetni procesi: sredinom studenog o.g. je objavljeno spajanje dvije vodece svjetske hotelske kompanije cime je zakljuceno jedno od vrijednosno najvecih spajanja u hotelskoj industriji ikad, gdje je Marriott International za 12,2 milijarde US $ kupio Starwood Hotels & Resort. Transakcija ukljucuje sve brendove, nekretnine i menadzment te fransizne ugovore Starwood a.

Siniša Topalović has built his international tourism and leisure consulting expertise working on various projects related to tourism development strategies and operational plans related to national, regional, local and city level. Siniša is particularly experienced in working with international teams – coordinating and harmonising them with an ultimate goal of generating maximum synergies. Siniša earned his MA degree on University of Zagreb, and is currently doing his PhD studies in the field of tourism. He is continuously preparing and publishing various professional articles, reports and columns relating to tourism and hospitality in domestic and international publications. He is participating in numerous international conferences related to tourism and hospitality. Siniša is managing all contacts, communications and cooperation arrangements between Horwath HTL International network and UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
